Overview
Shuyu granule is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) compound developed by the Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, specifically by the research team led by Professor Qiao Mingqi. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of depression, particularly cases associated with the TCM syndrome of Liver Qi stagnation. The formula is composed of several botanical ingredients, including *Radix Bupleuri*, *Rhizoma Cyperi*, *Radix Curcumae*, *Radix Paeoniae Alba*, *Fructus Aurantii*, and *Radix Glycyrrhizae*. Mechanistically, Shuyu granule is thought to alleviate depressive symptoms by regulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, increasing the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the hippocampus, and modulating the levels of monoamine neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine. It has been evaluated in clinical trials in China to assess its efficacy and safety as a specialized TCM antidepressant.
