Overview

shWTAP is an experimental short hairpin RNA (shRNA) designed to silence the expression of Wilms' tumor 1-associating protein (WTAP). WTAP is a key component of the m6A methyltransferase complex and is frequently upregulated in various cancers, including glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). By knocking down WTAP, shWTAP inhibits cancer cell proliferation and reduces stem-cell-like properties (stemness) in patient-derived cancer stem cells. Research indicates that WTAP plays a role in post-transcriptional regulation by decreasing intron retention and increasing exon skipping. shWTAP serves as a research tool to investigate the oncogenic role of WTAP and its potential as a therapeutic target in oncology.
