Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SHX-001 is an investigational transdermal patch formulation of racemic ketamine being developed by Shenox Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). As an N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist, ketamine exerts rapid-acting antidepressant effects. SHX-001 is designed to provide a gradual and prolonged ascending pharmacokinetic profile via precise transdermal delivery, aiming to minimize the adverse events (such as dissociation) and addiction potential typically associated with intravenous or intranasal administration. It is currently in Phase 1 clinical development for patients with sub-optimally responsive MDD.
