SI-449 is a powdered medical device developed by Seikagaku Corporation for the prevention of post-operative adhesions. The device is composed of cross-linked chondroitin sulfate, a substance naturally present in the body, created using proprietary glycosaminoglycan cross-linking technology. Applied topically during surgery (intra-operatively), SI-449 absorbs moisture and swells to form a physical barrier between the surgical wound and surrounding tissues. This mechanical obstruction prevents the formation of fibrin net structures, which are critical to the development of adhesions. It is specifically intended for use in gastroenterological and gynecological surgeries and is designed to be highly biocompatible and bioresorbable.
