Si Cao Formula

Si Cao Formula (SCF) is a topical herbal medicine formulation investigated for the treatment of mild to moderate plaque psoriasis. It is a multi-ingredient botanical extract containing at least 41 active constituents, including liquiritin, licochalcone A, and oxymatrine. SCF exerts its therapeutic effects by modulating the immune response, suppressing epidermal hyperplasia, and inhibiting angiogenesis. Mechanistically, it has been shown to intervene in the IL-17, JAK/STAT, and estrogen signaling pathways, specifically targeting proteins such as STAT3, MAP2K1, and ILK. Clinical pilot studies indicate that SCF has comparable efficacy to calcipotriol in reducing PASI and DLQI scores while demonstrating a significantly lower recurrence rate.
