Overview

si-IGFBP4 is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 4 (IGFBP-4). It is primarily utilized as a research tool to investigate the functional role of IGFBP-4 in various biological contexts, particularly in cancer progression. In studies involving renal cell carcinoma (RCC), si-IGFBP4 has been used to knock down IGFBP-4 mRNA in metastatic cell lines, such as ACHN, resulting in significantly decreased cell growth and motility. These findings suggest that IGFBP-4 may act as an oncogenic driver in RCC by activating the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway and inducing markers of tumor progression like M-CAM, contrasting with its known role as a Wnt antagonist in other tissues.
