si-LINC01291 is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of the long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1291 (LINC01291). In melanoma research, LINC01291 has been identified as an oncogenic long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that promotes tumor progression by acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA). It sponges microRNA-625-5p (miR-625-5p), which normally targets and suppresses the insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R). By silencing LINC01291, si-LINC01291 restores miR-625-5p activity, leading to the downregulation of IGF-1R expression. This intervention has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, while inducing apoptosis and increasing the sensitivity of melanoma cells to cisplatin in preclinical models.
