Drug intelligence / Profile preview
si-MAT2A (also known as siMAT2A or MAT2A siRNA) is a small interfering RNA designed to target and silence the expression of methionine adenosyltransferase 2A (MAT2A). MAT2A is a rate-limiting metabolic enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of methionine and ATP into S-adenosylmethionine (SAM), the primary methyl donor in cellular transmethylation reactions. In various cancers, including bladder cancer, multiple myeloma, and colorectal cancer, MAT2A is upregulated to sustain tumor cell survival, proliferation, and epigenetic methylation. Silencing MAT2A with si-MAT2A reduces intracellular SAM levels, impairs methionine metabolism, and induces apoptosis, making it a widely used research tool to investigate cancer metabolism and synthetic lethality.
