si-OIP5-AS1 is an experimental small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) OIP5 antisense RNA 1 (OIP5-AS1). In glioblastoma (GBM) research, OIP5-AS1 has been identified as an oncogenic factor that promotes tumor progression and mediates resistance to the standard chemotherapeutic agent temozolomide. The mechanism of si-OIP5-AS1 involves the targeted degradation of OIP5-AS1 transcripts, which subsequently leads to the upregulation of microRNA-129-5p (miR-129-5p). This increase in miR-129-5p levels results in the downregulation of insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2), thereby inhibiting tumor cell proliferation and restoring sensitivity to temozolomide in glioblastoma cells.
