si-PMEPA1 is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of the Prostate Transmembrane Protein, Androgen Induced 1 (PMEPA1), also known as TMEPAI. PMEPA1 is a transmembrane protein that plays a critical role in regulating the TGF-β signaling pathway and maintaining mitochondrial homeostasis. In the context of chronic respiratory conditions such as asthma, si-PMEPA1 is utilized in preclinical research to investigate the therapeutic potential of knocking down PMEPA1 to reverse airway remodeling and restore airway structural cell homeostasis. By specifically targeting PMEPA1 mRNA for degradation, this siRNA aims to mitigate mitochondrial damage and modulate mitophagy, addressing key drivers of asthma progression and therapeutic resistance.
