Overview

Si-Wei-Qing-Gan-Tang (SWQGT) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula used as a folk remedy herbal tea, primarily in the Ganzhou region of Jiangxi province, China, for the treatment of chronic hepatitis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). It exerts its therapeutic effects by modulating the Nuclear Factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway and inducing autophagy. Research indicates that SWQGT reduces hepatic inflammation by decreasing levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6. It also inhibits the phosphorylation of p38 MAPK, MEK1/2, and ERK1/2, and suppresses the mTOR pathway while activating ULK1 and LC3II to promote autophagic flux, thereby improving hepatic steatosis and pathological liver changes.
