Overview

Sialo-OS is a topical therapeutic candidate composed of sialic acid oligosaccharides, currently under investigation for the treatment of chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA). Sialic acids are a family of nine-carbon sugar derivatives typically found at the terminal ends of glycans on cell surfaces and secreted proteins, where they play critical roles in cell-cell recognition and signaling. In the context of hair regrowth, Sialo-OS is hypothesized to modulate signaling pathways within the hair follicle, potentially promoting the transition from the telogen (resting) phase to the anagen (growth) phase or protecting the follicle from the cytotoxic effects of chemotherapy. The drug is being evaluated in randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials to assess its efficacy in improving hair density and psychosocial outcomes in cancer patients experiencing hair loss.
