Sibling allogenic umbilical cord blood nuclear cells (Allo-CBRek) is an investigational cell therapy consisting of the total nucleated cell (TNC) fraction derived from the umbilical cord blood of an HLA-matched or partially matched sibling. This therapeutic approach is being evaluated for pediatric neurological conditions, specifically cerebral palsy and moderate-to-severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). The therapy is hypothesized to exert neuroprotective and regenerative effects through the paracrine secretion of neurotrophic factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines, which may modulate the immune response and promote endogenous neural repair in the damaged brain. In clinical protocols, the cells are typically administered via intravenous infusion, often accompanied by a short course of immunosuppressive agents like cyclosporine and prednisolone to mitigate the risk of graft-versus-host disease or cell rejection.
