This is a combination of two small molecule drugs, sibutramine and clopidogrel. Sibutramine is a centrally acting appetite suppressant that functions as a norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine reuptake inhibitor, primarily indicated for the treatment of obesity. Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet agent that acts as an irreversible antagonist of the P2Y12 receptor on platelets and is used to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and other cardiovascular events in at-risk patients. When co-administered, clopidogrel inhibits CYP2B6 and CYP2C19 enzymes responsible for metabolizing sibutramine into its active metabolites (M1 and M2), leading to increased plasma concentrations of parent sibutramine and altered pharmacokinetics of its metabolites[1][6]. This interaction may increase the risk or severity of adverse effects such as hemorrhage or cardiovascular events[2][5][6].
