Sibutramine + Metformin

Sibutramine + metformin is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used in the management of obesity, particularly in patients with type 2 diabetes. Sibutramine is an oral anorexiant that acts as a serotonin-norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor, promoting satiety and reducing appetite by inhibiting the reuptake of these neurotransmitters at neuronal synapses. Metformin is an oral antihyperglycemic agent from the biguanide class that improves insulin sensitivity and reduces hepatic glucose production. Clinical studies have shown that adding sibutramine to ongoing metformin therapy in obese patients with type 2 diabetes can result in significant weight loss, improved glycemic control (lower HbA1c and fasting plasma glucose), reduced triglycerides, and increased HDL cholesterol[3][5][6]. However, use of sibutramine has been discontinued or restricted in many countries due to cardiovascular safety concerns[8].
