Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sihuang Zijin Powder Colloid is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) topical preparation developed by Zhejiang Cancer Hospital for the management of infusion-induced phlebitis, particularly in patients undergoing chemotherapy. The formulation is a colloidal gel derived from 'Sihuang Zijin Powder,' which typically incorporates the 'Four Yellow' herbs—*Phellodendron amurense* (Huangbai), *Rheum palmatum* (Dahuang), *Scutellaria baicalensis* (Huangqin), and *Coptis chinensis* (Huanglian)—along with other TCM components like *Corydalis decumbens* (Zijinniao). These ingredients are rich in bioactive compounds such as berberine, baicalin, and emodin, which exhibit potent anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and anticoagulant properties. By inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g., TNF-α, IL-6) and reducing vascular permeability, the colloid helps to alleviate the pain, swelling, and venous cord formation associated with chemical or mechanical irritation of the vascular endothelium. It is primarily used as a localized treatment to prevent and treat phlebitis, thereby improving the success rate of intravenous therapy and patient quality of life.
