The SII Yellow Fever Vaccine is a live attenuated viral vaccine developed by the Serum Institute of India for the prevention of yellow fever. It contains the 17D-213 strain of the yellow fever virus, which is a derivative of the 17D-204 strain used in many currently licensed yellow fever vaccines. The vaccine is propagated in specific pathogen-free chick embryos and is designed to induce protective immunity against the yellow fever virus through a single dose. It is currently being evaluated in Phase III clinical trials, specifically targeting healthy infants aged 9 to 12 months in sub-Saharan Africa, to compare its safety and immunogenicity against the reference vaccine, STAMARIL. The development of this vaccine aims to address the global supply shortage of yellow fever vaccines.
