siIL-6 is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of Interleukin-6 (IL-6). In research contexts, particularly in pancreatic cancer studies, it has been used to demonstrate that mesothelin-activated NF-κB induces elevated IL-6 expression, which acts as a growth factor to support tumor cell survival and proliferation. Treatment with siIL-6 has been shown to reduce cell proliferation and cell cycle progression in pancreatic cancer cell lines such as MIA PaCa-2 and Panc1. Furthermore, prolonged treatment with siIL-6 can induce apoptosis and significantly decrease levels of downstream targets like c-myc and bcl-2, highlighting its role in blocking the autocrine/paracrine IL-6/sIL-6R trans-signaling axis.
