Siji Antiviral Mixture

Siji Antiviral Mixture is a traditional Chinese medicine preparation used for its anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and antiviral properties. [2, 3, 5] It is an approved over-the-counter medicine in China indicated for the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections, viral colds, and influenza, characterized by symptoms such as headache, fever, runny nose, and cough. [2, 11] The formula is a combination of eleven herbs: Houttuynia cordata, Platycodon grandiflorus, Morus alba leaf, Forsythia suspensa, Schizonepeta tenuifolia, Mentha haplocalyx, Perilla frutescens leaf, Prunus armeniaca seed, Phragmites communis rhizome, Chrysanthemum indicum flower, and Glycyrrhiza uralensis root. [2, 17] A clinical trial has evaluated its efficacy and safety in treating acute upper respiratory tract infections (common cold). [13, 19] Preclinical research suggests its mechanism of action may involve inhibiting the PERK/STAT3/NF-κB signaling pathway to reduce the inflammatory response and cellular stress caused by viral infections. [6, 8]
