siKIF22 is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of Kinesin Family Member 22 (KIF22), also known as Kinesin-like DNA-binding protein (Kid). KIF22 is a member of the kinesin-10 family and acts as a motor protein essential for microtubule stability and chromosome movement during mitosis. In various malignancies, including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), KIF22 is overexpressed and correlates with poor clinical outcomes, lymph node metastasis, and advanced tumor stages. By targeting KIF22 mRNA for degradation, siKIF22 inhibits tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. It also promotes apoptosis and induces cell cycle arrest in the G0/G1 phase by modulating the expression of cell cycle-related proteins (such as p21, p27, cyclin D1, and CDK2) and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers (such as E-cadherin, N-cadherin, and Vimentin). Research indicates that KIF22 is a direct target of miR-122, which negatively regulates its expression.
