Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SIL STRIPS is an orally disintegrating film (ODF) formulation of sildenafil, a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor, developed by DRS Biopharma (DRS Industries). It is approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Sildenafil works by inhibiting the PDE5 enzyme, which is responsible for the degradation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the corpus cavernosum. By preventing cGMP breakdown, sildenafil enhances the effect of nitric oxide, leading to smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. The ODF delivery system allows for rapid disintegration in the mouth without the need for water, potentially offering improved convenience and faster onset compared to traditional oral tablets.
