silica control cream

A topical dental cream containing 20% pure silica, used as a control intervention in clinical research for the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity. The cream functions by mechanically occluding open dentin tubules, which prevents the hydrodynamic flow of fluid that stimulates pulpal nerve endings. It was notably employed as a comparator in a Phase 2 randomized, double-blind clinical trial (NCT02918617) conducted by the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio to evaluate the efficacy of nanohydroxyapatite-containing toothpastes and creams. Subjects applied the cream using custom-fabricated trays for 5 minutes once daily to assess its ability to provide relief through physical tubule blockage.
