silncRNA16 is an experimental small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutic designed to target and silence **long non-coding RNA 16 (lncRNA16)**, also known as lnc-HC. Research, primarily conducted at **Sichuan University**, has identified lncRNA16 as a critical regulator of lipid metabolism and inflammatory responses in the context of **atherosclerosis**. By utilizing RNA interference (RNAi) to degrade lncRNA16, silncRNA16 aims to modulate the expression of downstream genes such as **ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1)** and **Cholesterol 7-alpha-hydroxylase (CYP7A1)**. These modifications promote cholesterol efflux from macrophages and enhance bile acid synthesis, thereby reducing lipid accumulation in the arterial wall and inhibiting the progression of atherosclerotic plaques. silncRNA16 is currently being investigated in preclinical models as a potential treatment for atherosclerosis and hyperlipidemia.
