Overview

Silodosin is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist used to treat the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in adult men. It works by selectively blocking alpha-1A adrenergic receptors, which are primarily found in the prostate, bladder neck, and prostatic urethra. By inhibiting these receptors, silodosin relaxes smooth muscle in these areas, improving urinary flow and reducing BPH symptoms such as difficulty urinating, weak stream, and incomplete bladder emptying. Silodosin was first approved by the FDA in 2008 and is available under several brand names worldwide[1][2][3][5].
