Overview

URIHENZ-D is a fixed-dose combination medication developed by Miotic Pharmaceuticals, containing silodosin and dutasteride. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Silodosin acts as a highly selective antagonist of the alpha-1A adrenergic receptor, which is predominantly located in the human prostate, bladder base, bladder neck, prostatic capsule, and prostatic urethra. By blocking these receptors, silodosin causes smooth muscle relaxation in these tissues, thereby improving urinary flow and reducing BPH symptoms. Dutasteride is a dual 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that inhibits both Type 1 and Type 2 isoenzymes responsible for converting testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Since DHT is the primary androgen responsible for the growth and development of the prostate gland, its suppression leads to a reduction in prostate volume over time. This combination therapy addresses both the dynamic component (smooth muscle tone) and the static component (prostate size) of urinary obstruction in BPH patients.
