Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Silon is a topical barrier preparation containing dimethicone 350 and zinc oxide, primarily used as a skin protectant. It is formulated as an ointment or cream designed to shield the skin from moisture and water-soluble irritants. Dimethicone, a silicone-based polymer, acts as a water-repellent agent that forms a non-occlusive protective film on the skin surface. Zinc oxide provides additional physical barrier protection and possesses mild astringent and antiseptic properties, which aid in the healing of irritated tissue. Silon is commonly indicated for the prevention and treatment of diaper rash (napkin rash), pressure sores (bedsores), and the protection of skin surrounding colostomies or ileostomies where exposure to digestive enzymes and moisture is frequent.
