Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SilvaSorb is a silver-based antimicrobial wound care product available in several formats, including gels, sheets, and non-adherent dressings. Developed by AcryMed (later acquired by Medline Industries), it utilizes a proprietary polyacrylate hydrogel technology to provide the controlled and sustained release of ionic silver to the wound bed for up to several days. It is primarily indicated for the management of various wound types, such as partial-thickness burns, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, and surgical incisions. The product is designed to maintain a moist wound-healing environment while providing a broad-spectrum antimicrobial barrier against pathogens, including antibiotic-resistant strains like MRSA and VRE. Its efficacy is derived from the biocidal activity of silver ions, which disrupt bacterial cell membranes and essential metabolic processes.
