Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Silver diamine fluoride + potassium iodide** is a two-step topical dental treatment consisting of silver diamine fluoride followed by potassium iodide. It is used for dentinal hypersensitivity and has been investigated for management of carious lesions. The sequential application produces a low-solubility silver iodide precipitate that occludes exposed dentinal tubules, reducing sensitivity; the potassium iodide step is intended to reduce the dark staining associated with silver diamine fluoride alone. Silver diamine fluoride also provides fluoride-mediated remineralization support and broad local antimicrobial activity against cariogenic dental plaque biofilms. The marketed Riva Star system is manufactured by SDI. ([sdi.com.au](https://www.sdi.com.au/en-us/product/rivastar/))
