Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Silver hydrosol** is a solution of ultra-fine silver ions (Ag+) and silver particles suspended in purified water, marketed as the purest grade of colloidal silver. It is primarily positioned as a topical agent with purported anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and tissue-regenerating effects. Silver ions disrupt bacterial cell membranes, inhibit key enzymes, and are toxic to a wide range of bacteria, fungi, and some viruses. In modern medicine, silver hydrosol is used mostly in wound dressings, creams, and dental gels to reduce infection risk and promote healing. It is sometimes taken as a dietary supplement in alternative medicine, but the U.S. FDA considers orally ingested colloidal silver products to be unsafe, citing lack of proven benefit and risk of argyria (bluish-gray skin discoloration) and organ toxicity[2][3][5][6][8].
