Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This experimental dental formulation is a combination of 0.1% silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and a commercial fluoride varnish (Fluor Protector Varnish by Vivadent), developed by researchers at the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí. The silver nanoparticles, which are approximately 46 nm in size, provide antimicrobial properties, while the fluoride component promotes the remineralization of tooth enamel. The formulation is specifically designed for the prevention of dental caries and the treatment of white spot lesions. It has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials, including studies specifically targeting children with Down syndrome (Trisomy 21), where it demonstrated enhanced dental structure and remineralization effects compared to conventional fluoride varnish alone.
