Overview
Silver Shell is an antimicrobial material technology developed by Chitosan Health LLC, consisting of a patented silver-chitosan platform designed for application as surface coatings or embedded materials in textiles and medical devices. The technology utilizes silver chloride chitosan particles (larger than 100nm) integrated with chitosan to provide antimicrobial protection through both contact-based and silver ion-mediated mechanisms. Developed with NIH NIAID funding, the Advanced Silver Shell formulation uses significantly less silver than conventional antimicrobial finishes while maintaining high efficacy against healthcare-associated pathogens, including methicillin-resistant *Staphylococcus aureus* (MRSA), *Clostridioides difficile*, *Candida auris*, and *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*. It is intended to prevent surface contamination and healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and has demonstrated durability through 75 washes in textile applications.
