Silverline Cu 380 Ag

Silverline Cu 380 Ag is a non-hormonal intrauterine device (IUD) developed by DKT WomanCare International in partnership with Pregna International for long-acting reversible contraception. The device features a flexible T-shaped frame with copper wire wound around the vertical stem, providing a total copper surface area of 380 mm². A distinguishing feature of the Silverline series is the inclusion of a silver core within the copper wire, which is designed to prevent fragmentation of the wire and maintain the structural integrity of the device over its effective lifespan. The primary mechanism of action involves the continuous release of copper ions into the uterine cavity, which are toxic to spermatozoa, thereby inhibiting sperm motility and viability and preventing fertilization. Additionally, the presence of the device induces a sterile inflammatory response in the endometrium that further interferes with sperm transport and potentially prevents implantation. It is approved for use and typically provides contraceptive protection for up to 5 years.
