SIM0278 is a Treg-preferred interleukin-2 (IL-2) mutant Fc fusion protein developed by Simcere Pharmaceutical Group. It is engineered to selectively activate regulatory T cells (Tregs) while minimizing activation of effector T cells and natural killer (NK) cells. This selectivity is achieved through specific mutations that reduce the affinity for effector T cells but maintain high affinity for Tregs. The drug aims to restore immune balance and has potential applications in treating autoimmune diseases such as moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis and systemic lupus erythematosus. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its ability to selectively activate Tregs without stimulating other immune cell types, suggesting improved safety and efficacy profiles compared to non-selective IL-2 therapies[1][2][3][4].
