Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Simbioflora is a synbiotic supplement composed of a proprietary blend of probiotic bacteria, including species of *Bifidobacterium* and *Lactobacillus*, combined with the prebiotic fiber fructooligosaccharides (FOS). It is primarily used to modulate the gastrointestinal microbiota, particularly in patients undergoing cancer treatments such as surgery or chemoradiotherapy. By promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria and inhibiting pathogens, Simbioflora aims to reduce systemic inflammatory markers like C-reactive protein (CRP) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), improve gut barrier function, and decrease the incidence of postoperative infectious complications. The product is developed and marketed by the Brazilian pharmaceutical company Farmoquimica (FQM).
