siMcl-1 (Myeloid Cell Leukemia 1 small interfering RNA) is a target-specific RNA interference (RNAi) agent designed to silence the expression of the anti-apoptotic protein Mcl-1. Mcl-1 is a member of the Bcl-2 family that plays a critical role in cell survival by inhibiting apoptosis, and its overexpression is frequently associated with chemotherapy resistance and poor prognosis in various cancers, including breast cancer, glioblastoma, and leukemia. By targeting and promoting the degradation of Mcl-1 mRNA, siMcl-1 reduces Mcl-1 protein levels, thereby lowering the apoptotic threshold and sensitizing cancer cells to cytotoxic therapies. While primarily utilized as a research tool in preclinical studies to investigate apoptotic pathways and drug resistance, siMcl-1 represents a therapeutic strategy for combination cancer therapies.
