Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of two antiviral drugs: simeprevir and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate. Simeprevir (TMC435) is an oral hepatitis C virus NS3/4A protease inhibitor developed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection. Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate is a nucleotide analog reverse transcriptase inhibitor used primarily in the treatment of HIV infection and chronic hepatitis B. Tenofovir DF works by inhibiting viral reverse transcriptase, leading to chain termination during viral DNA synthesis, while simeprevir inhibits the HCV NS3/4A protease, preventing viral replication. This combination may be considered in patients with co-infection or as part of broader antiviral regimens.
