Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Simiao Xiaobi Decoction (SXD) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by Xiyuan Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It is derived from the classical formula "Simiao Yongan Tang" and is specifically indicated for RA patients presenting with symptoms characterized in TCM theory as damp-heat and toxin accumulation. The decoction is composed of several herbal ingredients, including *Lonicera japonica* (Jinyinhua/honeysuckle), *Radix Angelicae Sinensis* (Danggui/Chinese angelica), *Hedyotis diffusa* (Baihuasheshecao), and *Radix Paeoniae Alba* (Baishao/white peony root). SXD is reported to possess anti-inflammatory and chondroprotective (cartilage-protecting) properties, which help reduce joint pain, swelling, and morning stiffness. It is administered orally and has been evaluated both as a monotherapy and in combination with conventional disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs). A granulated version, known as Simiao Xiaobi Granules, has also been developed for clinical use.
