Simotang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula traditionally used to regulate Qi and promote gastrointestinal motility. It is composed of four primary herbal ingredients: *Aucklandia lappa* (Muxiang), *Fructus Aurantii* (Zhiqiao), *Areca catechu* (Binglang), and *Lindera aggregata* (Wuyao). The formulation is widely utilized in China for the treatment of postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction, functional dyspepsia, and abdominal distension. It works by stimulating the secretion of gastrointestinal hormones such as gastrin and motilin while inhibiting the release of somatostatin, thereby enhancing gastric emptying and intestinal peristalsis. Modern clinical research has focused on its role in accelerated rehabilitation surgery (ERAS) protocols to facilitate the recovery of bowel function following abdominal procedures.
