Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Simvacard is a branded pharmaceutical formulation of simvastatin, a small molecule HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin). Developed and manufactured by Zentiva, it is primarily used to treat lipid disorders such as primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. By inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in hepatic cholesterol synthesis, it reduces LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels while increasing HDL cholesterol. It is also indicated for the secondary prevention of cardiovascular events, including myocardial infarction and stroke, in patients with coronary heart disease or high cardiovascular risk. The medication is typically administered orally in tablet form.
