Overview

Simvastatin + albiglutide is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used for their respective indications. Simvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) that lowers cholesterol by inhibiting the enzyme responsible for cholesterol synthesis in the liver, thereby reducing LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while increasing HDL cholesterol. It is primarily indicated for hypercholesterolemia and prevention of cardiovascular events[1][2][5][6]. Albiglutide is a glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 agonist) used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus; it enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion and slows gastric emptying, leading to improved glycemic control[3][7]. The combination may be considered in patients with both type 2 diabetes and dyslipidemia, but co-administration can increase plasma concentrations of simvastatin acid, so caution is advised when using higher doses of simvastatin with albiglutide[4][8].
