This therapeutic intervention consists of the small molecule drug simvastatin loaded onto an autologous platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) scaffold. Developed by the British University in Egypt, it is being evaluated for its ability to mitigate alveolar bone loss and enhance bone density around immediate dental implants. While simvastatin is traditionally an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor used for hyperlipidemia, in this local application, it leverages pleiotropic effects to promote osteoblast activity and bone formation. The PRF serves as a bioactive matrix that releases growth factors and provides a delivery system for the simvastatin directly into the extraction socket, aiming to enhance osseointegration and bone regeneration.
