While simvastatin is traditionally administered orally for hypercholesterolemia, this specific formulation delivers 2.2 mg of the drug in a 0.15 ml methylcellulose carrier directly into periodontal pockets. In this localized application, simvastatin is intended to leverage its pleiotropic anti-inflammatory and bone-anabolic properties to improve clinical attachment levels and increase alveolar bone height.
