Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Simvastatina Cinfa is a generic pharmaceutical product containing simvastatin, a lipid-lowering agent belonging to the statin class. It acts as a competitive inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in the mevalonate pathway of cholesterol synthesis. By inhibiting this enzyme in the liver, it reduces intracellular cholesterol levels, leading to the upregulation of LDL receptors and increased clearance of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) from the blood. Beyond its primary lipid-lowering effects, simvastatin is recognized for pleiotropic benefits, including improved endothelial function and anti-inflammatory properties. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia and for the reduction of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in patients with manifest atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease or diabetes mellitus. The product is marketed by Laboratorios Cinfa and has been utilized in clinical research conducted by the Fundacion Para La Investigacion Biomedica Del Hospital Universitario La Paz.
