Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sinarest AF Junior is an oral fixed-dose combination pediatric medication developed by Centaur Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of symptoms associated with the common cold, allergic rhinitis, and upper respiratory allergies in children. It is formulated as an acetaminophen-free (paracetamol-free) syrup, typically containing chlorpheniramine maleate (an antihistamine), phenylephrine hydrochloride (a nasal decongestant), sodium citrate (a mucolytic), and menthol (a soothing agent). Chlorpheniramine relieves allergic symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes by blocking histamine H1 receptors. Phenylephrine acts as an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist to constrict blood vessels in the nasal passages, reducing congestion. Sodium citrate helps thin and loosen mucus, while menthol provides a cooling sensation to soothe throat irritation.
