Sincalide is a synthetic peptide that corresponds to the C-terminal octapeptide of the naturally occurring hormone cholecystokinin (CCK). It acts as a diagnostic agent primarily used to stimulate gallbladder contraction and pancreatic secretion during diagnostic imaging or laboratory analysis. Sincalide is administered intravenously and mimics endogenous cholecystokinin by causing the gallbladder to contract, leading to bile evacuation similar to physiological processes. It also stimulates pancreatic secretion of bicarbonate and digestive enzymes, especially when combined with secretin. Additionally, sincalide accelerates intestinal transit of barium meals during radiological examinations, reducing radiation exposure time.
