Sinensetin is a plant-derived polymethoxylated flavonoid (specifically an O-methylated flavone) found in Orthosiphon aristatus (also known as Orthosiphon stamineus or "cat's whiskers") and in the peels of various citrus fruits such as sweet orange. It has demonstrated a broad range of pharmacological activities in vitro and in vivo including strong anticancer effects as well as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial (including antifungal), anti-obesity (by enhancing adipogenesis and lipolysis), anti-dementia/neuroprotective effects and vasorelaxant properties. Mechanistically it is reported to exert its actions through inhibition of angiogenesis and inflammation pathways; it also induces cell differentiation and inhibits linoleic acid oxidation. Sinensetin shows promising potency with minimal toxicity but remains primarily a research compound; further studies are needed to clarify its mechanisms of action and clinical potential[1][2][3][4][5][6].
