Overview

Sinigrin is a naturally occurring glucosinolate found in cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, and mustard seeds. It serves as a precursor to allyl isothiocyanate (AITC), a bioactive compound released upon enzymatic hydrolysis by myrosinase. Sinigrin has demonstrated a range of pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer effects. Recent research has identified sinigrin as a potential inhibitor of Phosphodiesterase-4B (PDE4B), a target associated with cognitive enhancement and the treatment of neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer's disease. By inhibiting PDE4B, sinigrin may help maintain levels of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), thereby supporting memory and neuronal health.
