Overview

The Sinovac quadrivalent influenza vaccine (QIV) is an inactivated, split-virion biologic developed by Sinovac Biotech Co., Ltd. for the prevention of seasonal influenza. It contains inactivated influenza virus strains derived from World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations, providing protection against four distinct strains: two influenza A subtypes and two influenza B lineages. The vaccine works by targeting the viral hemagglutinin (HA) protein to induce the production of hemagglutination inhibition (HI) antibodies. It was evaluated in a Phase III clinical trial in Chile, conducted in collaboration with the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where it demonstrated non-inferior immunogenicity and a comparable safety profile to the licensed comparator VaxigripTetra in individuals aged 3 years and older during the 2023 Southern Hemisphere influenza season.
