Overview

Group B-Anhui Provincial Cancer Hospital-colorectal cancer refers to a specific treatment arm in a Phase II clinical trial (NCT05146102) sponsored by the Anhui Provincial Cancer Hospital. This combination therapy regimen consists of the PD-1 checkpoint inhibitor sintilimab, the anti-angiogenic VEGF inhibitor bevacizumab, and the chemotherapy agents irinotecan and capecitabine (collectively known as the CAPIRI regimen). The study specifically targets patients with advanced microsatellite stable (MSS) or proficient mismatch repair (pMMR) colorectal cancer who do not have liver metastases. The rationale for this multi-drug approach is to convert the typically 'cold' immune environment of MSS colorectal cancer into an 'immunologically hot' one by combining immunotherapy with targeted anti-angiogenic therapy and cytotoxic chemotherapy, potentially overcoming the resistance of MSS tumors to single-agent checkpoint inhibition.
