Overview

This combination therapy consists of the PD-1 inhibitor sintilimab and the FOLFOX chemotherapy regimen (oxaliplatin, leucovorin, and fluorouracil) administered via hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC). It is being investigated by Sun Yat-sen University as a conversion therapy for patients with potentially resectable locally advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The rationale is that HAIC provides high local concentrations of chemotherapy directly to the liver with reduced systemic toxicity, while PD-1 inhibition enhances the anti-tumor immune response. This synergistic approach aims to improve objective response rates and increase the conversion rate to surgical resection in patients who were initially ineligible for R0 resection.
